A 1976 Winchester Model 70 in .243 Winchester, serial G1257438, with a 22-inch round barrel that still carries its iron sights under a Leupold VX-II 3-9 scope. Blued metal, jeweled bolt, checkered walnut stock with the original butt plate, and a sling comes with it. Wear is moderate: handling marks on the stock with no cracks, heavier speckling in the bluing, a smooth action and an excellent bore.

A scoped .243 bolt gun suits the South Carolina hunter buying a first centerfire or anyone who wants a deer rifle that is already set up, and Game Zone 3 gives it the longest run: private land from August 15 to January 1, bucks only until September 14, guns legal from day one. With the Leupold mounted and a sling fitted it is ready for the walk to a stand on opening morning. Verify zero first, tag every deer and file it with SC Game Check by midnight.
