Winchester Model 1895 rifle, serial 82868, made in 1915, chambered in 30 Army, the cartridge otherwise known as 30-40 Krag, with a 28-inch round barrel. Bluing runs 40 to 50 percent on the barrel and 50 to 60 percent on the receiver, the stock shows normal handling wear, and the bore is frosty in the grooves with rifling that remains strong. A Lyman No. 21 peep sight is fitted.

The 1895 in 30 Army is for the South Carolina collector of Winchester lever guns, or for the hunter who wants a century of history in the stand: any legal firearm may be used for deer here, and Game Zone 3 private land is open from August 15 to January 1. The Lyman aperture is already in place for hunting use, and the 28-inch barrel makes this a full-length rifle rather than a carbine. If it goes to the woods, tag the deer and enter it in SC Game Check by midnight.
